sense

Sense of Workplace

Using neuroscience to tune your work environment to your body, one physical sense at a time.

Our brains are constantly processing sensory stimuli from the workspace, with the results affecting mood, focus, and energy levels. We examine each of the five senses, providing neuroscience insights and surprise resources to help your environment and brain work better, together.

Sound

Let’s turn up the volume. Sound simultaneously lights up multiple areas of the brain including those connected to memory, emotion, movement, attention, pleasure, and reward, and can change your mental state.

scent

Smell

Wake up and smell the coffee. Throughout history, humans have used smell to identify food, danger, and opportunity. Scent continues to modulate our behavior and affiliations, exerting a major influence on tastes and personality.

sight

Sight

The eyes are the window to the soul, with 80% of our environmental impressions gathered through sight. Personal and cultural layers affect our preferences, while visuals such as color elicit a universal physiological response.

taste

Taste

This might be a bit of an acquired taste, but taste is intricately tied to memory and self-preservation. Our taste buds help the body select essential nutrients while avoiding harmful toxins, which impact wellness, energy, mood and more.

touch

Touch

It’s a touchy subject, but we receive information in myriad forms including pressure, temperature, vibration, pain and texture. Touch is the most diffused of the senses with its neural network located throughout the body.
