At ROOM, we value quality in everything we do, and this is why we partner with third party agencies to ensure our product meets the highest safety standards.
Our 2019 edition phone booth is ETL listed and conforms to UL STD 1286, which is a category for office furnishings most representative of our phone booth. UL is a global agency that defines certification standards for various types of products, and ETL is the official approval mark of Intertek, which is part of a group that tests to the UL standards. Our ETL listing is also certified to CSA 22.2 #203, a safety standard set by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
UL standards for furniture dictate that products adhere to certain guidelines set by the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association (BIFMA), the leader in developing furniture safety, durability, and sustainability standards. Our booth meets the BIFMA x5.6 -2016 Panel System requirements.
As for fire safety, ASTM E84 is the standard testing method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials. Our test results for ASTM E84 meet the requirements set by UL STD 1286.
TSCA VI is the formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products. EPA TSCA VI is the federally adopted standard based on CARB, which was developed in the State of California. All of our MDF is compliant to TSCA VI because it’s CARB compliant.
Lastly, our phone booth is GREENGUARD Certified. A part of UL, GREENGUARD Certification ensures that a product has met rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air, contributing to a healthier indoor environment. GREENGUARD Certification criteria have been the basis for the LEED credit for low emitting furniture since 2002. Office furniture products, such as our phone booth, that are GREENGUARD Certified are compliant with the BIFMA X7.1 standard and BIFMA e3 credit 7.6.1.
